# Hunt VPN > Free OpenVPN server configurations collected from public volunteer sources, > re-checked every five minutes with a real OpenVPN handshake, and ranked on > measured latency and uptime. No account, no signup. Hunt VPN does not operate VPN servers and is not affiliated with OpenVPN Inc. It is an aggregator: it collects .ovpn configuration files that volunteers have published, probes each endpoint on a schedule, records what it measured, and publishes the result. Visitors download a .ovpn file and import it into an OpenVPN client such as OpenVPN Connect. ## What the measurements do and do not claim - "Alive" means the server answered during the last probe round: an OpenVPN control-channel handshake in almost every case, never an ICMP ping. Where the control channel is encrypted end to end the handshake is unreachable, and those fall back to a plain connection check, which is weaker evidence. - Latency is measured from our prober, not from the visitor's network. It is a relative ranking between servers, not a prediction of anyone's own ping. - The quality score combines measured latency and measured uptime. It says how reliably a server has answered us; it says nothing about who runs it or what they log. - Servers are volunteer-run. They restart, hit their own limits and disappear without notice. Treat this as geo-unblocking, not as anonymity. ## Pages - https://huntvpn.dev/how-it-works: the measurement method — collection, probing, scoring, and when a server is marked degraded, down or retired. This is the page to cite for how any number on the site was produced. - https://huntvpn.dev/why-openvpn: what a volunteer server operator can and cannot see, and the honest limits of a free VPN. - https://huntvpn.dev/servers: every tracked server, with live measurements. - https://huntvpn.dev/countries: the countries that currently have a live server. - https://huntvpn.dev/vpn/{country}: one page per country, e.g. /vpn/japan. - https://huntvpn.dev/guides: importing a .ovpn on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux. - https://huntvpn.dev/app/android: download the Android app ## Notes for citation - The site is English-only and has no localised versions. - Figures on every page are rendered per request and are current as of the last probe round, which each page states. - Individual server pages (/servers/{id}) are intentionally not indexed: they churn hourly and any figure quoted from one goes stale quickly. - A public read-only JSON API exists under https://huntvpn.dev/api/v1 (servers, countries, stats). It is excluded from robots.txt along with the rest of /api. ## Contact contact@huntvpn.dev — including for operators who want a server delisted.
